Who are we?

The CRES Media Arts Committee (MAC) is a volunteer-run Vancouver-based group dedicated to serving, supporting, and building on the Vancouver experimental audio community.

The activities of MAC are made possible through the generous support of the Canada Council for the Arts, as well as the membership of CFRO 102.7 FM Coop Radio.


Call For Submissions - The Vancouver 2010 Olympics interpreted as Sound Art

Due Date: Feb 5th 2010

We would like to invite all sound artists of Vancouver to submit applications with proposals on how they would create a sound art piece from recordings made throughout greater Vancouver for the duration of the 2010 Winter Olympics. With a buzzing city filled with international guests coupled with a monumentous amount of events and venues there is no end of sound sources to record and interpret.

Five artists will be selected to commission pieces that are a minimum of three minutes and a maximum of eight minutes long.

Compensation: $500 per piece

Our application process has changed so that your applicaton/proposal will remain in consideration for the entire year, not just for a specific time within the year.

WORKSHOP - USING PORTABLE RECORDING EQUIPMENT

Time: 3pm - 4pm
Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010
Location: Co-op Radio
Cost: $10
This hands-on, how-to session will introduce you to the station's
digital portable recording equipment and will give you tips on doing
remote recordings of interviews, lectures, musical performances and
sound art.
Trainer: Danjel van Tijn (Studio Technician)
Registration: Space is limited due to limited equipment.  Please
contact programs@coopradio.org and specify that you are interested in
WORKSHOP #3.

WORKSHOP - BASIC SOUND EDITING USING AUDACITY

Time: 4:30pm - 6pm
Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010
Location: Co-op Radio
Cost: $10
Co-op Radio's Studio Technician will walk you through installing
Audacity software onto your computer (if you have a laptop you can
bring) and will introduce you to the basic functions of the software.
If you don't have a computer, there will be a couple of computers
available at the station (including the one in Control Room C that can
be reserved for audio editing work).
Trainer: Danjel van Tijn
Registration: Space is limited due to limited equipment and time.

are interested in WORKSHOP #4 and please indicate whether or not you
will be bringing a laptop.
